Our AG ProgramLead Mine's "AG" Teacher is a resource for all K-5 teachers
and their students. Any teacher needing differentiation support may Students are formally identified at the end of third grade based primarily on two group tests given to all third graders in Wake County. These tests measure aptitude (Cognitive Abilities Test) and achievement (Iowa Tests of Basic Skills). The state of North Carolina requires scores in the 90th percentile or above for a student to be considered for the Academically Gifted Program. Students' interest, motivation, performance and behavior are also taken into account when making decisions about a need for differentiation. Students may have a need for AG services in math, reading, or both, and they may be identified as having a Moderate, Strong, or Very Strong need. All third graders at Lead Mine have classroom activities and small group activities with the AG teacher. The formal AG program does not begin until fourth grade. Students who are identified will participate in a resource program with activities to enrich and extend their regular curriculum. This program continues in fifth grade for students at Lead Mine. Wake County's AG program is comprehensive and serves students through their graduation from high school. What is GiftedSo you've been identified as gifted. What does that mean? What It Means
