principal's message

Welcome to another fun and productive year at Lead Mine Elementary. I thoroughly enjoy showing off our school to visitors, both actual and virtual. Our small size, of fewer than 500 students, is a real asset in maintaining the family feeling we've been known for since the building opened in 1990.

I am privileged to work with a group of educators who are not only excellent teachers, but also genuinely nice, caring people. That is something the students understand when they walk through the doors. They know they will be held to high expectations by teachers who also care about them as people. That philosophy served us well last year as 85.2% of our third, fourth and fifth graders passed the End of Grade Test. The district average was 77% passing. That earned us the label School of Distinction from the state. We also showed "high growth" with our students and made it into 14 different top ten lists the district created for all of the different subgroups of children. Our accomplishments led to a feature on WRAL you can access at the bottom of our website home page.
